WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?
Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary modality involving the use of alternating pressure applied to the reflexes within the reflex maps of the body located on the feet, hands, and outer ears. (RAA's Definition of Reflexology 2006)
RAIA History
The Iowa Association of Reflexology was formed in 2002 to educate, promote, and protect Reflexology in Iowa. Pat Barrance, Marcia Lenning, and others worked diligently to protect Iowa Reflexology. After many lengthy and often frustrating trips to the State House and a Public Hearing at the Department of Health, reflexology was exempt from Massage Licensing on March 30, 2004 (HF2201).
In April 2008 the Association was reorganized under new bylaws and a new name, the Reflexology Association of Iowa – RAIA. Articles of Incorporation were filed in June 2008 and we were approved of nonprofit status in February 2010 . As of February 2009 the RAIA was granted State Affiliation by the Reflexology Association of America – RAA.
